The Lumen Cynagua:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an annual A&S Championship competition that is only open to Cynaguans. The competition begins with Spring Coronet and concludes with Winter Investiture. The Lumen Cynagua Medallion is then presented to the A&S Champion at the following Spring Coronet. There are 8 Arts and Sciences competitions (4 arts and 4 sciences) held throughout this year-long period. A competitor must enter a minimum of four of these to be eligible. Multiple items may be entered in each category, however, only the highest score will count towards the Championship overall score. The A&S Champion is known as the \u201cLumen Cynagua,\u201d representing the light of art and learning in the Principality. The Champion\u2019s responsibility is to encourage participation in and an appreciation of the arts and sciences in Cynagua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

******Please send me your name and  type of art you will be entering for the Lumen competition no later than 2 weeks before a scheduled competition so I have time to find suitable judges.

Beasty Bugs

Summertime often brings out wanted and unwanted crawling, flying and buzzing creatures. From the beautiful to the stuff of nightmares we take a look at the little, and sometimes not so little things we share summer months with.

Art
Create a wearable piece depicting one or several bugs.

Some examples are jewelry, head coverings, trim.

Science
Don’t bite me! Create something that warded off bug bites and or was used as a mobile barrier to keep bugs away.<\/td>		Fall Coronet<\/strong>

The Wild Hunt

Some mythology tells us The Wild Hunt rode eternal chasing elusive prey as atonement for wrong doings in life.  For competition we will look at what monsters may have lurked and how it was believed one could be protected from such thing

Art
Useing period techniques create something that represents a folklore monster documentable pre 16th century.  

Example:  needle felted snakes on a hat, (Medusa) three distinct but unmatched dog collars (Cerberus) .

Science
Define and describe why and how certain charms, rituals and behaviors were believed to ward off monsters and evils spirits. <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Accessories, embroidery, jewelry – these are just a few ways historical garb was decorated.  Often times decorative elements depicted rank, status or wealth of individuals or a group. 

Art
Create a decorative element which shows status, wealth or rank in a specific culture.  

Science
Document and discuss why certain decorative items were believed to grant the holder leadership over a group of people or ultimate political powers of State and if religious beliefs, if any, added to the perception of leadership or power.<\/td>		Cynagua Coronet <\/strong>

As bright sunshine of Spring melts the frigid heart of winter, so comes the renewal of Courtly and Chivalric Love.

Art
Fans, handkerchiefs and jewelry were a few things used in the art of conveying interest in someone. Create an object to be given to your person of “special interest” during pre 16th century court.

Science
Several cultures had talisman, songs, or specific deeds that were relevant to finding that “special someone” Create and document your best interpretation of one of these and define why it was believed to successful.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
